Topic work: Patrick Kavanagh Multimedia Schools Project

The year 2004 commemorated the centenary of the birth of Patrick Kavanagh, the renowned
Irish poet and writer.

This project involved four primary and three post primary schools from 'Kavanagh country', the
south Monaghan area, in developing a unique multimedia resource across the curriculum
for all Irish schools on the life and work of Patrick Kavanagh.

The project provides a distinct variety of primary and post primary interactive project strands
for all students and teachers in their exploration of Kavanagh's work and world.

Primary level
At primary level the project strands include:
  • Transport in the days of Patrick Kavanagh
  • Local memories and images
  • Changes in agriculture from the time of Patrick Kavanagh
  • Nature and trees in Kavanagh's country.

Post primary level
At post primary level the project strands include:
  • Food and dress to impress Patrick Kavanagh
  • An ecological study of Kavanagh’s literature
  • A digital record of the geology, scenery and landscape formation in south
    Monaghan
  • 'Kavanagh – The man and his work', 'Kavanagh’s poetry – A personal response'
  • In the footsteps of a poet – A tour of Kavanagh country
